There’s no better way to determine what’s important than to ask questions. And, when both parties in a conversation ask, and even more important listen, that leads to a win/win for both.

The standard questions the frame shop designer should ask you, not in any particular order… Would you want it matted? What colors do you like or dislike? What type, color, style of frame do you like? Is there any size constraints or desires (panoramic)? What type of glass? Are you familiar w/ float mounting, V-grooves, other aesthetic options available? Would you like us to hinge mount? When would you want this project completed? What’s in the room that you picture this framed piece going on the wall that we should take into consideration?

The questions you could ask the designer include the ones they did not ask &… What are the benefits of matting a picture? What do you mean, mounting? How do you mount, attach this? Do you have any experience framing something like this? Do you know anyone that could help hang this? What are the benefits of this frame, this mat, this glass? Do you use archival components?

The one question not mentioned, but is important to all…how much? When one fully understands all that goes into any purchase, all the variables, the more you are apt to decided to make the purchase. That is especially true w/ custom framing.
